Definition: Definition: the study of human societies and cultures and their development.

Either of this ASL sign above looks like "dunno" or "don't know" and also "Australia". A few versions of the legend behind the origin of this ASL sign is that a lecturer asked the students (or an interpreter) for a signed word for 'anthropology' in a classroom. They replied, "don't know". Another discussion is that this ASL sign is based on the iconic Australian slouch/bush hat anthropologists use.
