Anecdote

"My hearing partner and I bought a house with detached garage in 2010. He put some fabric that covered the windows of the garage. I took off the fabric off one particular window where I could look through from the kitchen window. He put it back. I took it down. He later asked why. Because, it's my sound. It's the window that I could "hear" whether he's home or he's out. For him, it's probably just the ability to see his truck through the window but it cannot be seen in the nighttime. I had a secret 'visual sound' that he probably had never realized. There were two tiny glowing orange dots linked to the garage door that I could see in the complete dark at night time. If I couldn't see the glowing specks, his truck hid them. He's home. When I could see them, he is out with his truck." -- Handspeak.

This is one of some examples of how Deaf people perceive that are different from hearing people.
