How do you say "flower" in American Sign Language?

Meaning: The part of a seed plant that normally bears reproductive organs.

Pronunciation (sign description): Dominant flat "O" with its fingers and thumb in contact with the side of the nose moves from that side to the other side of the nose once.

On your wedding day, you threw a BOUQUET of flowers which accidentally got stuck in the ceiling fan. At Christmas, your new neighbor surprised you with a WREATH on your door. On your 5th anniversary, your spouse gifted you a FLOWERPOT. Then on your 10th anniversary, s/he planted a SUNFLOWER in your backyard. On your daughter's Indian wedding day, they gave you a GARLAND to wear. You threw up your hands, "No more plants." In your burial, you grow a PLANT.

Don't forget to click "All" back when you search another word with a different initial letter.

If you cannot find (perhaps overlook) a word but you can still see a list of links, then keep looking until the links disappear! Sharpening your eye or maybe refine your alphabetical index skill. :)

ASL has its own grammar and structure in sentences that works differently from English. For plurals, verb inflections, word order, etc., learn grammar in the "ASL Learn" section. For search in the dictionary, use the present-time verbs and base words. If you look for "said", look up the word "say". Likewise, if you look for an adjective word, try the noun or vice versa. E.g. The ASL signs for French and France are the same. If you look for a plural word, use a singular word.
