Deaf History

Did you know that...? Patsy Ann (1929-1942) is Juneau's most famous dog who was deaf. Juneau Mayor Goldstein dubbed the English bull terrier "Official Greeter of Juneau, Alaska" in 1934.

Patsy Ann

Though Patsy Ann was "stone deaf", he knew when ships were arriving into Juneau's harbor before anyone else, even long before they came into sight and never failed to greet a ship.

A statue of her likeness sits her favorite spot on the downtown cruise ship dock, not far from her final resting place in Gastineau Channel.

"She never missed a boat."
