ASL signs for SINK

Be aware of different signs for "sunk" or "submerged in water" depending on what referents are. In this case, the horizontal "3" classifier handshape refers to vessels (seacraft, car, etc).

Meaning: To go below the surface of water or another liquid; submerge.

The sign refers to a person or an animal drowning.

Meaning: a sea-craft being sank or submerged.


Meaning: a kitchen sink or water basin with a drainpipe and faucets.

Compound sign: fs-SINK+classifier. Or, just fingerspelling "SINK" and then use some classifiers in reference to it in the course of conversations.

Same for BASIN as in a water sink, washbasin, or washbowl.
