Signs for TRUNCATE

Depending on the subjects, there are several ways of expressing "truncate" in American Sign Language, often with verb inflections and classifiers -- the same true for "cut".

Meaning: to shorten or cut off a part of something.

Pronunciation (sign description): Two-handed flat hands held in space, palms facing each other, dominant hand moving toward the non-dominant palm without touching while non-dominant hand remains in place, with mouth morpheme "oo".

Although, there are several ways of signing the concept of English word "truncate" in ASL, depending on the subjects.

Related signs: CUT, TRIM, REDUCE, DIMINISH, DECREASE.

Opposite: EXTEND, LENGTHEN.

Meaning: A text abruptly cut off.

ASL has its own grammar and structure in sentences that works differently from English. For plurals, verb inflections, word order, etc., learn grammar in the "ASL Learn" section. For search in the dictionary, use the present-time verbs and base words. If you look for "said", look up the word "say". Likewise, if you look for an adjective word, try the noun or vice versa. E.g. The ASL signs for French and France are the same. If you look for a plural word, use a singular word.
