How to sign "soul patch" in American Sign Language? Also known as "mouche", "Van Dyke", "jazz dab".
Definition: a small tuft or patch of facial hair directly below the lower lip.
Pronunciation (sign description): Dominant "G" hand with its forefinger and thumb on the same horizontal level in contact with upper chin just below the lower lip slightly slides down the chin once or twice.
"Mouche": 1) another name for soul patch, 2) an artificial beauty mark or patch fashionable in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries.

ASL has its own grammar and structure in sentences that works differently from English. For plurals, verb inflections, word order, etc., learn grammar in the "ASL Learn" section. For search in the dictionary, use the present-time verbs and base words. If you look for "said", look up the word "say". Likewise, if you look for an adjective word, try the noun or vice versa. E.g. The ASL signs for French and France are the same. If you look for a plural word, use a singular word.
