Art and Language

When I presented my video to my art class for critique at art college, the students watched the narrative poem written by a friend who asked me to translate it into ASL. I asked him to vocally speak in my video project. My friend sang with his mouth while I sang with my hands.

One of the common comments was that my signing was like "hand dancing" in their words. It was not first time one said "hand dancing" in my life. Initially, I was offended, but with contemplation I finally came up with the title for this video "Lip Dancing"! That's what we have been watching the singers' lips moving like dancing all our lives.
