Meaning: to give to or transfer possession of (from generation to generation).

E.g. "She passed the family clocks on to her daughter-in-law."

George in his film talked about the importance of using and keeping sign language (ASL) to pass on to the next generations. This film was produced in response to the threatening extinction of sign language when sign language was forbidden in deaf schools worldwide after the infamous international "Congress of 1880 in Milan".
