Deaf Culture

A Deaf woman, Zofia Lapiak, told her anecdote about how she knew when there was a visitor coming to her house in her Polish village in the 1970s.

"The door in my kitchen had a small window with small curtains over it. Down the hallway to the sunporch and the short stairs down to the front door to the right. Whenever a visitor came to the front door, she noticed slight changes in the 'kitchen door' environment that I knew there was someone entering my house, whether the subtle way the curtains moved and/or the light changed."
