Meaning: the bedtime in a school dormitory, military barracks, or other institution, when lights are switched off.
Another meaning: This signed word also can be referred to the lights from the ceiling.

In Thomas K. Holcomb's book "Introduction to American Deaf Culture", he talked about his bilcultural-bilingual wife who is a coda of doda (hearing child of Deaf family).
When his wife "went away to college for the first time. With an extremely chatty roommate, she found it difficult to continue talking after the lights were turned off even with her perfect hearing."

ASL has its own grammar and structure in sentences that works differently from English. For plurals, verb inflections, word order, etc., learn grammar in the "ASL Learn" section. For search in the dictionary, use the present-time verbs and base words. If you look for "said", look up the word "say". Likewise, if you look for an adjective word, try the noun or vice versa. E.g. The ASL signs for French and France are the same. If you look for a plural word, use a singular word.
