HEARING in sign language
Meaning: Perceiving sound and vocally speaking (people); of hearing ideology, culture and identity.
This sign refers to the cultural identity, ideology and identity of hearing people only. See HEAR for the verb "hear".
Hearing culture
Did you know that you (hearing person) have a "hearing culture" that Deaf perceive this for a very long time? Many hearing people don't realize the existence of their identity until they learn of this from the perspective of Deaf community. They were surprised or puzzled that they have what we call it "hearing culture".
Hearing-but
It's a term occasionally used by culturally Deaf people only when referring to few hearing individuals or allies who share a "DEAF HEART".
Culture NOTE: Hearing people as part of the audist system cannot call themselves or identify themselves as "hearing-but". This signed term is used only by Deaf individuals from their own perspective.
Hearing loss
What does HEARING LOSS mean? Most people know what it means. But, virtually all of them don't know what the other meaning is.
