Deaf dancers and dance performances

One doesn't need hearing to be a good dancer. There are many talented Deaf dancers; here is a few well-known Deaf dancers.

Dancing with the Stars

Contestant Nyle and his partner Peta Murgatroyd won the Mirror Ball trophy in Season 22 of Dancing With the Stars on May 24, 2016. Before this, incredibly Nyle DiMarco also became the final winner of America's Next Top Model (Cycle 22) on December 4, 2015.

A favorite and powerful piece is the freestyle dance to Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" during one of their dance competitions on the ABC reality's America's Next Top Model (ANTM).

Another powerful dance during their ANTM competitions is Nyle's dance with blindfold with Peta. It was a huge risk and they made it through the semifinals.

Iwona Cichosz, who also won the Miss Deaf International (2016), participated in the dance contest with her partner Stefano Terrazzino in Poland's "Dancing with the Stars" television show, beginning in March 2017.

Thousands Hands

The dance performance 'One Thousand Hands Bodhisattva is a well-known world tour dance troupe. All performing dancers in this "Thousand Hands" piece are deaf Chinese. The conductors stand on the sides giving cues as the deaf dancers perform. This group of Deaf dancers have traveled around the world and performed, including Beijing Olympics 2008 and Deaf Way

More dancers

While there are more talented dancers than mentioned here because we may be not aware of others out there, here is a few more.

Andrey Dragunov was on a Russian TV show, "Amazing People" in October 2020. He is Deaf since birth and from St. Petersburg. He is a professional dancer, performing both solo and team. He relies on feeling rhythms via vibration. He is also known as a 'finger dancer'.
