Pamela Witcher. "Audism" (2004). Oil on canvas, 20"x16".

Earless is a quintessential feature that appears in a number of her paintings. It represents her experience of being Deaf and her part of Ameslan culture. Not surprisingly, earless is somehow a visual aesthetic pleasure to the eye of culturally Deaf people. Common observation is that, unlike hearing people, a symbol or image of the ear appears to be distasteful to "eyeing" people.
