Dictionaries of Sign Languages

In the 1960s, William Stokoe, known as the "father of ASL linguistics," recognized ASL (American Sign Language) as a true language at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

Along with his published works, he co-authored Dictionary of American Sign Language on Linguistic Principles in 1965.

As research and studies on sign language have been expanding since the 1960s, a number of hardcopy sign language dictionaries have popped up in several countries around the world from Nepali Sign Language to Kuwaiti Sign Language to American Sign Language in the U.S. and Canada.
